Lila Palmer
General and Artistic Director
Lila Palmer, a British-American producer and librettist, joins the New Orleans Opera Association from New York’s American Lyric Theater, a highly regarded new music incubator, where she has served as Managing Director and Associate Director for Promotions and Partnerships. As an Educator Lila has led development workshops for emerging talent for companies including Loose Tea Music Theater, Boston Opera Collaborative, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and American Lyric Theater and serves on the Dominick Argento Competition panel and the Librettist’s Guild. An accomplished producer with a rigorous academic pedigree, Palmer has also led arts activation programming in heritage spaces, including The Museum of London, The London Transport Museum, Trebah Gardens, and the Bethlem Gallery and Trust; building relationships with varied stakeholders across fields.
Palmer’s work as a librettist has received acclaim in the Wall Street Journal, New Yorker and The Times of London (Album of the Year). Her work has been performed at Washington National Opera, The Edinburgh International, Aix-En-Provence Festival, Des Moines Metro Opera, Gran Teatro del Liceu Barcelona, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Glimmerglass Festival, and her song cycle This Be Her Verse received international premieres in Canada, Germany, Australia, Scotland, Switzerland, and France. 2024 saw her work in performance across five states and two Canadian provinces.
